Former Somonauk Resident Died in South Dakota; Funeral Here Monday

 

The remains of Mrs. Margaret McNamara Boland were brought to Somonauk Monday for burial in the Catholic cemetery. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church here Tuesday morning, conducted by Father Kirkfleet. Mrs. Boland died at Huron, South Dakota, Saturday June 23, following an illness of two months.

Mrs. Boland was born in Somonauk, June 2, 1867. She was a member of the first graduating class in Somonauk high school in 1883. The following fall she started teaching at the O'Brien district school in Victor township and the following year she taught in Northville township and then was given a position as teacher in the Somonauk school, where she taught for a period of fourteen years.  Her early life was devoted to educational study and work and she was instrumental in the organization of the Somonauk high school alumni and took a deep interest in all school activities.

On June 27, 1900, she was united in marriage to William Boland. Ten years later they moved to Winner, Tripp county South Dakota, where they since resided. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Boland, one son and one daughter having preceded the mother in death. Two sons, Miles W., of Davenport, Iowa, and Gerald A., on the home ranch in Tripp county, South Dakota, with his father, are left to share the sorrows of the bereaved husband. She is also survived by one brother, James McNamara, of Aledo, Ill. and two sisters, Miss Anna McNamara, of Rock Island, Ill., and Miss Mary Quilty of Minneapolis, Minn.

The body was accompanied to Somonauk by the husband and the son, Gerald, and niece, Mrs. B. E. Clancy, James McNamara and Miss Anna McNamara. Others from out of town who were present at the funeral were: Mrs. Henry Duggan and daughter and Miss Nellie Duggan of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Connelly, Cherry, Ill.; E. O. Wright and daughter, Aurora; Mrs. Perry Friz, Waukeshau, Wis.; Warren Hubbard, Sycamore; Mr. and Mrs. H. J. White, Waterman, and Tom Mercer, Sandwich.
