St. Mary's Cemetery History

INTRODUCTION

ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CEMETERY is located on County Line road south of Maple Park, Illinois in
Section 1 Township 39 North Range 5 East. The cemetery is on the west side of County Line road with
two driveways secured with gates.

"The property owned by George Bucklin of the Town of Cortland, County of DeKalb and State of Illinois
was deeded to Dennis Butler, James Butler, John Guerin, Patrick Welch, Mike Welch and Anthony Solin
all of the Town of Pierce, DeKalb County for $200.00, to wit:

Commencing at the S. E. corner of the North half of the N. E. 1/4 Section one (1) in Township 39 Range 5 East
of the Third Principal Merdidian, thence running West said line between John Guerin and George Bucklin one
hundred and sixty rods (160), thence North twenty rods (20), thence East sixteen rods (16) to the center of the
road, thence along the center of the road twenty (20) rods to the place of beginning and containing two (2) acres.

And it is further agreed that the parties of the second part is to make all the fence around said
two (2) acres and keep it in repair.

"James Butler of Twp of Kaneville, County of Kane, State of Illinois to the Catholic Bishops of
Chicago, Illinois, residing near the corner of North Avenue and State Street in City of Chicago,
County of Cook, State of Illinois, following parcel of land:

A certain Lot or parcel of land situated in the N.E. 1/4 of Sec one (1) Twp 39 Range 5 East situated
in the Town of Pierce containing two (2) acres which was deeded by George Bucklin to Dennis Butler
and others as trustees for a Catholic Burying Ground. Reserving, however, two burying lots East of
said burying lots 16 feet wide by 32 feet in length.

One of these burying lots cover the remains of the late Dennis Butler as shown by a tombstone erected
thereon. The intent being to use the same lot for Henry Butler (son of the deceased) and his family and
also for deceased daughter, Mary O'Brien nee Butler, wife of John O'Brien and for her family at the
present time living near DeKalb.

The other burying lot is reserved for the use of myself and my son, James E. Butler and family.
This last described burying lot lays Southwest of the Dennis Butler burying ground.
